Wellness & Vaccinations

Regular wellness care is the best way to keep your pet healthy and catch minor problems before they become serious issues. At Pet Vet Family Pet Care Center, we provide wellness exams, vaccinations, parasite prevention, routine diagnostics, and more for pets in Kalamazoo. Our pets can’t just tell us what’s wrong, and they’re also masters at hiding pain or signs of illness until the condition has become severe. Regular wellness care is the foundation of your pet’s best life, and we’re dedicated to making that foundation rock solid.

What Happens During a Pet Wellness Exam

A wellness exam lets us get to know your pet and what’s normal for them. We’ll check them over from nose to tail and establish a baseline for their health. This makes it easier to spot changes down the road that might signal a problem.

Our wellness exams include:

  • Full physical examination (eyes, ears, teeth, heart, lungs, joints)
  • Weight check and body condition assessment
  • Parasite screening
  • Discussions about diet, behavior, and any concerns you have

For most adult pets, we recommend annual wellness exams. Senior pets benefit from twice-yearly visits since they age faster and health issues can develop quickly.

Vaccinations and Parasite Prevention

Keeping your pet current on vaccines protects them from serious diseases like rabies, distemper, and parvovirus. Some vaccines are considered ‘core’ and recommended for all pets, and some (like the rabies vaccination) may be required by law. Additionally, there may be vaccinations that are recommended depending on your pet’s individual needs. We’ll recommend a vaccination schedule based on your pet’s age, lifestyle, and risk factors.

Year-round parasite prevention is an equally important aspect of routine pet wellness care. Fleas, ticks, heartworms, and intestinal parasites are much easier to prevent than to treat, and some internal parasites found in pets can also pose a risk to people. We’ll help you find the right prevention plan to keep both your pet and your family safe.

Dental Care and Nutrition

Good dental care prevents painful infections and expensive extractions later, and we recommend regular professional cleanings as needed. At-home pet dental care is also important, and we’re happy to help you get started—it’s easier than you might think!

Nutrition matters too. There’s a lot of conflicting information out there about pet food, and we can help you cut through the noise and the slick ad campaigns to determine the diet that’s best for your pet. We’ll recommend what makes good sense for your pet’s age, health, and your budget.
