Pre-Surgical Care
Our process begins with thorough preoperative screening. This helps us to uncover and prepare for potential concerns so we can reduce the risk of complications for your pet. We’ll also develop a strategy for keeping your best friend comfortable and pain-free — before, during and following surgery. We use the safest, most effective pain control medication and customize our approach to each individual patient.
Your pet will be screened prior to surgery to ensure that your pet is healthy enough to undergo surgery. Whenever anesthesia is needed, we take special care to ensure the safety of your pet. We will thoroughly examine your pet prior to surgery, and, depending on your pet’s age and general physical condition, we may also run blood, urine, and x-ray tests to screen your pet for any pre-existing conditions that could impact the surgery. Though there is some risk associated with any medical procedure, modern anesthesia is usually safe, even for older pets.
We will administer anesthesia once your pet is cleared for surgery. Our veterinarians can also use these test results to develop a pain management technique that is tailored for your pet.
What to Expect During Surgery
All pets undergoing surgery will have their blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate and blood oxygen levels monitored by a licensed veterinary technician to keep them safe and comfortable during the entire process. On the day of surgery, our staff will also ensure that we have the most up-to-date contact information when you drop off your pet and will keep you informed about their condition and progress.
Discharge and Post-Surgical Care
Your pet’s care and comfort are our top priority. We will utilize various pain management techniques to aid in your pet’s recovery. The post-operative pain management plan will include pain medication to reduce discomfort and encourage a speedy recovery. This plan may include an at-home pain medication to keep them as comfortable as possible. We will provide you with instructions on how to manage your pet’s post-operative care at home. We are more than happy to provide you with more information and answer all your questions or concerns.
