Resolutions For Puppies

Happy New Year! Are you starting 2020 out with a new puppy? If so, little Fido has a big year ahead of him! He’s got lots to learn, and lots of growing to do. Read on as a Portage, MI vet lists some of the things on your furry pal’s agenda for the coming year.

Make Lots Of Friends

Socialization is extremely important! This must be done while your pet is still young. Introduce little Fido to your friends and family members, and have them all give him lots of treats and ear scritches. You may also want to host some puppy playdates, and visit parks and pet-friendly cafes. This will help your furry buddy grow into a friendly, well-behaved dog.

Grow

Our canine companions grow very fast. Your dog will look very different when 2021 rolls around than he does now! That growth spurt will put a lot of strain on little Fido’s body. Offer your pooch a high-quality, puppy stage formula pet food. Ask your vet for specific nutritional advice.

Play

There’s nothing cuter than a puppy hard at play! Little Fido will spend time chasing his tail, tugging at rope toys, and just generally bounding around having fun. Get your furry friend lots of toys, including plenty of safe chew toys, and play with him every day.

Explore My World

Your canine pal will want to investigate every inch of his new domain. Keep the little guy safe by removing or securing potential dangers, such as toxic plants, medicine, chemicals, wires and cords, and plastic bags and ties.

Give Lots Of Kisses

Puppies are absolutely adorable. One of little Fido’s most endearing traits is his habit of giving smooches. We suspect that your furry companion will put plenty of smiles on your face this way in 2020!

Learn To Be A Good Boy

Petucation should definitely be on your canine buddy’s 2020 to-do list! In addition to housebreaking and crate training, little Fido should learn basic doggy obedience commands, such as Sit, Stay, Come, Heel, and Lay Down. Once your pup has these things mastered, show him some cute tricks!

All of us here at Pet Vet Family Pet Care Center, your Portage, MI vet clinic, want to wish you and your families a wonderful, happy, and prosperous new year. We look forward to helping you keep your dog healthy in 2020 and beyond!
